چکیده

The increasing requirements for the environmental protection have resulted in the search for more effective, inexpensive and ecologically safe solutions. Zeolite is one of the alternatives, which due to their peculiar structure are widely used for various environmental processes. The demand for an easily accessible and inexpensive source of zeolite has raised interest in synthesis of these minerals. The dumped fly ash may be a significant resource for the production of the zeolite. Application of microwave processing is a relatively new development in material processing. The volumetric heating ability of microwaves allows for more rapid, uniform heating, decreased processing time, and often enhanced material properties. Application of fly ash zeolite for oil spill cleanup also seems to be quite interesting and attractive. In our study, authors have discussed the microwave digestion method. This calls for utilization of industrial byproduct fly ash in zeolite synthesis using microwave assisted digestion.

Differential Behavior of Combustion and Gasification Fly Ash from Puertollano Power Plants (Spain) for Zeolite Synthesis and Silica Extraction

Coal gasification (IGCC) and pulverised coal combustion (PCC) fly ashes (FAs), obtained from two power plants fed with the carboniferous bituminous coal from Puertollano (Spain), were characterized. Both FAs were used as raw materials for zeolite synthesis by direct conversion and by alkaline fusion, and SiO2 extraction at laboratory scale. The Puertollano FAs are characterised by a high SiO2 c...

Synthesis of Zeolites Na-P1 from South African Coal Fly Ash: Effect of Impeller Design and Agitation

South African fly ash has been shown to be a useful feedstock for the synthesis of some zeolites. The present study focuses on the effect of impeller design and agitation rates on the synthesis of zeolite Na-P1 which are critical to the commercialization of this product. The effects of three impeller designs (4-flat blade, Anchor and Archimedes screw impellers) and three agitation speeds (150, ...

Waste Minimization Protocols for the Process of Synthesizing Zeolites from South African Coal Fly Ash

Production of a high value zeolite from fly ash has been shown to be an avenue for the utilization of South African fly ash which presently constitutes a huge disposal problem. The synthesis of zeolites Na-P1 and analcime on a micro-scale has been successful and preliminary investigation shows that scale-up synthesis is promising. However, the post-synthesis supernatant waste generated contains...
